When Morning Gilds the Skies

In heav’n’s eternal bliss
The loveliest strain is this,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let earth, and sea, and sky
From depth to height reply,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

While many have the first verses of quite a few hymns committed to memory, that’s not always the case for the rest of the stanzas. I enjoy reading through all of the lyrics to remind myself of “the rest of the story.”

This is the fifth verse from When Morning Gilds the Skies.

First published in the mid-1700s, the original lyricist appears to be unknown.
