I made this photo last Saturday morning at Rye, New Hampshire. Though the cloud cover at daybreak appeared to have the makings of some good pre-sunrise color, it didn’t materialize.
Oddly, this was one morning when the best opportunities started to appear some 15 minutes after the sun had come up. (I’m usually long finished shooting by then.) Because heavy cloud cover on the horizon in front of the sun blocked its direct rays of light, I was able to set up my shot looking to the north to capture the colors the indirect light created in the clouds – along with the corresponding reflections in the tidal pool.
