Here in New England, the third Monday of April is Patriots’ Day (in Massachusetts, it’s a state holiday).
This day we commemorate the battles of Lexington and Concord – the first of the American Revolution. Early this morning, the annual re-enactments of those battles took place. Then the Red Sox played a day game at home. And of course – the Boston Marathon. The weather was good – no rain, chilly this morning followed by cool conditions – perfect for the runners.
A beautiful day.
If you’ve seen the news, you know that the afternoon was shattered by bomb blasts near the marathon’s finish line which killed two, maimed others, and sent as many as 100 to the hospital.
Reminders – as if we needed them – of the fact that this world is filled with evil.
Praying to God to bring peace among the chaos, comfort to those who have been injured, and to surround those who are grieving with love.
