Great is Thy Faithfulness

September 19th, 2011 No comments

I hadn’t heard this hymn for awhile; we sang it yesterday morning at worship and it stuck with me. The lyrics are so uplifting! (Isn’t it funny how sometimes something you’ve heard before – maybe even many times before - can sing out in a different way?)

The chorus is paired here with an image of sunrise off the New Hampshire coast.

To those who say that hymns are old fashioned relics which ought to be permanently retired, I respectfully disagree.

Is Shakespeare no longer worth reading, or Beethoven irrelevant? Just because something is old doesn’t mean it has no relevance.

Whether it’s praise music or hymns, guitars or organ, fully orchestrated or a capella…whatever style of music you use to praise God, I’m sure He appreciates and enjoys hearing it. Sing out!

Wheels Up – Air Show!

If you’re a regular reader, you know my main focus as a photographer is the landscape.

This doesn’t mean, however, that I don’t occasionally shoot other subject matter…sometimes just for fun.

This past weekend, the Portsmouth (NH) Air Show delivered exceptional entertainment featuring a wide variety of aircraft. Skilled pilots demonstrated amazing maneuvers all afternoon – but the highlight of the day was a performance by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds.

An air show enthusiast, I was thrilled to watch what these pilots – and their machines – can do. Take a look at some of the action! (Click on thumbnails for a full view.)

Beauty is God’s Handwriting

March 28th, 2011 No comments

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful;
for beauty is God’s handwriting — a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower,
and thank God for it as a cup of blessing.
