“Each moment of the year has its own beauty…a picture which was never seen before and shall never be seen again.”
How true this is. There is beauty in every season, and in every day.
It’s also true that the pictures which surround us are constantly changing – if we only stop to notice.
There are certain locations which I visit over and over with my camera: in some cases, it can be scores of times over many years. I’m sometimes asked if I don’t get bored going to the same place over and over again. The answer is an unequivocal no. The landscape is always changing; it’s never exactly the same from one day to the next. Sometimes this is obvious: it’s rainy one day and the next morning the skies are completely clear. But often it’s more subtle. The light has moved. The breeze picks up. The color temperature shifts. I always see something different.
The better I get to know a location, the more likely it is I’ll be able to make good images there. It may take time – precisely because the conditions are always changing – but with patience and persistence come rewards for visiting a spot many times over.
The same is true of our backyards – or an interesting scene we drive by each day on the way to work. These locations are never the same. They’re always offering us something new – if we notice.
If we take the time to look….really look….we realize just how interesting the world around us really is.
