Songs of the Birds

I sat this evening, as daylight was waning, listening to the lovely songs of the birds.

It took me back to hundreds – perhaps thousands – of similar evenings in my lifetime. Those songs washing over me at the end of the day┬áis about as peaceful as it gets.

As much as I like the city, there is nothing like the quiet of the landscape when the singing of the birds is the sweet melody which ushers in the nighttime.

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
and hear the brook, and feel he gentle breeze;

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
